How to use it
- 1
Choose a historical window
Select any saved trade, a timeframe and optionally an exact reference ticker. The instrument mapping supports stocks, FX, indices, crypto and commodity references where provider history exists. A fallback to coarser candles is labelled.
- 2
Set fill assumptions
Enter spread and slippage in instrument price units. Leave the multiplier blank for quantity-weighted price-unit results, or supply an assumed value per price unit per quantity for monetary results in the provider quote currency. Fees require a multiplier. Settings lock when the session starts.
- 3
Reveal candles and place an order
Pause at a revealed candle, enter quantity, a stop trigger and a target trigger, then choose Practice buy or Practice sell. Entry uses the revealed close, adjusted adversely for half spread and slippage. Only subsequent candles can trigger the stop or target.
- 4
Inspect the chart
Use Focus trade to zoom around the selected execution or Full window for all revealed candles. Cyan and outcome-coloured dots mark actual simulated fill prices; candle arrows identify the bars. Choose another closed practice trade from the selector. Rounded labels do not change saved prices.
- 5
Review exits
Play or step forward. Stop gaps fill at the open and target gaps at the target, with assumed execution costs. When both levels are touched in one candle, the stop is used unless the open already determines the fill. Pause to close manually at the revealed close.
- 6
Save and review
Progress and notes save automatically. Watch the save status and retry failures before leaving. Review the cumulative practice result, R bars, fill timestamps and ambiguous fills. Use Save & journal to return to saved sessions.
- 7
Repeat without rewriting history
Start a new session to practise the same window again. Existing sessions progress forward and cannot move recorded decisions to earlier candles. Saved candles allow sessions to resume without reloading history from the market provider.
Understanding the data
- Practice does not send broker orders and never inserts simulated trades into your real journal. It does not affect real performance statistics, balances, achievements or imported P&L.
- Reference indices and futures may differ from broker CFDs. Monetary results use your assumed multiplier, not verified broker economics. No FX conversion, financing, margin or liquidation model is applied.
- R divides the net simulated result by entry-to-stop risk, including the assumed round-trip spread, slippage and fees. Fees are per fill, not per quantity.
- Only completed provider candles are used. Daily bars cannot establish an intraday path. Intraday history has provider retention limits; unavailable instruments or windows show an error rather than invented candles.
- A sell loses when its exit price is above its entry, and a buy loses when its exit is below its entry, before considering costs. A later market move does not change a trade already closed by its stop or target.
- Practice markers use candle times. A close-based fill occurs at the revealed candle close; the displayed time identifies that candle, not an exact tick execution time.
- Session results are grouped by their setup labels using R. Monetary amounts from different currencies or unit assumptions are not combined.
Common questions
Can I use every instrument?
Automatic references cover multiple asset classes, but history depends on provider coverage, timeframe and dates. Options and dated contracts may require an exact ticker. If history is unavailable, try a coarser timeframe or a suitable reference.
Why is rewind unavailable?
Practice preserves the order of recorded decisions. Start another session to repeat the window. The ordinary Market Replay page still offers rewind for reviewing actual saved trades.
Why does a stop fill worse than its trigger?
A gap may open beyond the stop. Half spread and slippage are also applied adversely. This is a candle simulation with explicit assumptions, not a reconstruction of broker execution.
